2010 CHATEAU MONTELENA CABERNET SAUVIGNON, CALISTOGA-NAPA VALLEY

148382

This wine shows deep dense plum color with great density.   The nose opens with anise and spice before moving into rich layers of blackberry and cherry compote.   All that great concentrated fruit is beautifully complemented with barrel tones of vanilla and clove.  It is quite youthful and lively on the palate with a good firm acid core – great for food pairing – and abundant velvety tannin.  Complex layers of black fruits through the mid palate, with good barrel spice underlayment throughout, are nicely complemented by bright red fruit on the finish.  This wine is quite approachable so young, but it will definitely improve with additional time in the bottle, if you’ve got the patience.  Reg. $59.99 Now $49.99-(sales price subject to change)

2008 PIO CESARE BAROLO 1.5 LTR.- $149.99

120789l

Sweet rosemary, licorice and red berries waft from the glass in Pio Cesare’s 2008 Barolo. This is a fairly approachable vintage for the estate’s Barolo. Firm, young Nebbiolo tannins frame the long finish.  92 points Wine Advocate

BODEGAS ALTO MONCAYO AQUILON, 2006 GARNACHA

94 points from Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar: “Glass-staining ruby. Finely etched raspberry, blackberry, floral and mineral aromas expand in the glass while retaining impressive clarity. Silky and sweet, with pinot-like red berry and cherry flavors, a seamless texture and a big jolt of smoky minerals on the back. Balances racy precision with great flavor impact, picking up Asian spices and candied rose with air. The very long finish repeats the red fruit and floral qualities with conviction. If only the current set of Australian wines from consulting winemaker Chris Ringland had even half the clarity and elegance of these.”  $119.99

MIRAVAL- COTES DE PROVENCE ROSE

Unknown

“Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have released their first wine, a 2012 rose from their Provence estate, Chateau Miraval. In a blind tasting of a flight of Provençal roses at Wine Spectator‘s New York office, the wine was refined and elegant, with pure flavors of dried red berry and tangerine, and a focused finish with flint and spice notes. It scored 90 points, or outstanding, on Wine Spectator‘s 100-point scale.”   $23.99
